Mora than 20 years ago, we started using ski poles to walk in the mountain, to improve our stability and most of all so that our knees don't work excessively during descent. Now the northern countries have publicised at a commercial level the great many advantages of walking with walking poles, on level walks as well as on climbing and descent.
Nordic walking has become a habitual practice in the northern and central european countries and especially since the different factories have developed technical equipment specifically for this activity.
Nordic Walking made sense or a commercial name to something we had been doing for many years simply out of logic. We can say that Nordic Walking gave a name to our way of walking on the mountain, turning a product that is already attractive due to its environment into a sport practice that is available to everybody.
What advantages does Nordic walking have?
We can differentiate between two types of advantages: physical (compared to walking without poles) and spiritual.
Physical:
There is an increase of 10 to 15 heartbeats per hour
Increase of 13 % average of physical volume
Increase of 20% to 46% of energy spent
Relaxation of the knees and back during practice
Increase in the lateral stability of the knees and ankles, minimizing wearing down and possible injuries.
Utilization of the muscles of the upper body, pectorals, back and arms.
Increase in safety regarding possible sliding falls.
Possibility to do an aerobic sporting activity of longer duration, between 1 and 2 hours.
Possibility of maintaining a heart beat of between 120 and 150 beats.
Spiritual:
Reduction of stress
Contact with nature
Social contact
Time to sort out one's mind
